About us

Founded in 1964, Texas Men’s Soccer is the highest-level team representing the University of Texas. The team is a student-run club team and NOT a D1 men’s program. As such, we are unable to provide athletic scholarships or influence admission decisions.

However, what we do provide is a highly competitive soccer environment without sacrificing any one of our player’s academic pursuits. This unique environment has been possible over the years thanks to the steady stream of underrecruited talent that attends the University as well as a dedicated coaching staff and alumni association.

The team typically consists of a dedicated roster of around 35 players training 3 nights a week and competing in both Conference and Non-Conference matches each season, with the ultimate goal of sending a roster of 25 to win the National Soccer Championship for club teams. Roster selections are fluid throughout the season and are based on fitness, injuries, as well as practice and game performance, all with the goal of developing a deep, highly competitive pool of players always vying for first-team and tournament selection.

Our pre-season program—typically starting two weeks before the first day of class—marks the start of our season. Conference games usually start in early September and tend to extend well into November, depending on post-season performance. Spring semesters hold no official Conference play but present an opportunity for players to continue developing as the club maintains a program of training sessions, a schedule of (friendly) games, and the potential of a regional tournament.

To be eligible, a player must be currently enrolled as a UT student who earns 6 credits per semester and maintains a minimum 2.0 GPA each semester. If these requirements are not met, the student will not be eligible to try out, attend practices, or otherwise play with the team.

Juan Caudillo - HEAD COACH

Coach Juan Caudillo is a proud alumnus of the Texas Men’s Soccer program. He played from 2009-2012 and was part of the team that reached the Semifinal of the NIRSA National Championship in 2010. He also became an officer and a leader of the team in his junior and senior seasons. Before coming to Texas, he was also a captain of the Del Valle High School soccer team from El Paso, TX that won the 4-A State Soccer Championship in 2008.

As he neared graduation, he began to work summer soccer camps and got involved with Lonestar SC here in Austin with their Junior Academy program. After 5 years and earning his first two coaching licenses, he decided to join the Texas staff as an Assistant Coach in 2016. After 4 years of assisting two separate Head Coaches, he got the opportunity to be the Head Coach starting in 2020. After the pandemic brought all of that first year to a halt, he went on to have an almost perfect start to his tenure at the helm in 2021, helping the team get to its first National Final since 1997 and posting a 15-1 league record for the season. In the following year, he guided the team to a 12-1-2 record in their 2022 league play and helped the team book a return to the Semifinal of the NIRSA National Championship. Looking towards 2023, the team had the goal of another deep run but ultimately fell short in Nationals group play, posting a final season record of 8-4-2.

Coach Juan graduated with a BBA in Marketing and has been working full-time in digital marketing since graduation. He has a passion for coaching at all levels and loves the feeling of seeing his players grow on and off the field. You can reach him personally on his LinkedIn or by emailing UTMensSoccer@gmail.com.

Davey Dermody - Assistant COACH

Davey Dermody joined the Texas Men's Soccer coaching staff in 2026, bringing a Division I playing background and a lifelong love of the game to the program.

A native of Nashville, TN, Dermody came up through club and ODP programs before captaining his high school team to an undefeated senior season and a state championship with Brentwood High School. He continued his career at Lipscomb University, where he played as a holding midfielder for the Bisons' Division I program.

Following his college playing career, Dermody ran clinics for Lipscomb before spending the next several years coaching at his alma mater, Brentwood High School, outside Nashville. After relocating to Austin in 2019, Dermody returned to coaching with FC Westlake's Junior Academy program and is currently pursuing his USSF C coaching license. He joined Texas Men's Soccer as an assistant because the program's blend of serious competition and genuine academic priority mirrors his own experience as a student-athlete.

Off the pitch, Dermody has built a career in B2B sales and business development. A devoted Manchester United supporter, he is excited to help the Longhorns compete for another national championship.

Dylan Veigel - Assistant COACH

Dylan Veigel joined the Texas Men's Soccer coaching staff in 2026, bringing 18 years of playing experience complemented by 4 years of coaching experience to the program.

A product of club soccer in Colorado and Illinois, Veigel developed as a player across two of the country's more competitive youth markets before earning four years of high school varsity soccer in the Chicagoland area. He continued his career at Grand Canyon University, where he played for the Lopes' club program and served as captain during his junior and senior seasons. Under his leadership, GCU captured its first Region 5 championship in 2024, which earned the program its first-ever national tournament berth, where they advanced to the Round of 16.

Veigel graduated from Grand Canyon University with a degree in sports management and a minor in athletic coaching. He remained with the university after graduation, coaching for both the men's and women's club programs.

After recently relocating to Austin, Veigel pursued a role with Texas Men's Soccer, as the program clearly aligns with his passion for building a healthy competitive culture and developing young athletes both on and off the pitch. He looks forward to playing a role in the continued success of the Texas Men's Soccer program.
